Wekiva Wrestling Update January 6, 2008
The Wekiva wrestling team was very busy over the winter break. We attended two tournaments and held a major fundraising activity.
December 22 - the Wekiva wrestling team made a strong showing at the Hagerty Duals Invitational. When the dust settled, the boys had compiled a 4-1 record for the tournament, good enough for a 3rd place finish in a field of 10 teams. Individual standouts included Carlos Wilkins (4-1), Dylan Dixon (3-1), Harold Tittle (4-1), Trinidad Wilson (4-1), and Briar Woodham (3-1). In addition, Victor Smith recorded his first varsity win.
December 23 - the inaugural MUSTANG RIDE, a fundraiser for the wrestling team, was held at Lake Magnolia. The team planned a ride for motorcycle enthusiasts from all around the Orlando area who joined together in support of the wrestling team. After the route was completed, hamburgers, hotdogs, and soda were provided for the riders. We expect this to be an annual event – so please let us know if you are interested in attending next year.

January 5 - the team attended the Viper Duals at Space Coast High School and came away with a 2-3 record. Despite the team record, several individuals had success at the tournament. Carlos Wilkins received an award for going undefeated (5-0) and recording 3 pins at the tournament despite wrestling a weight class above his actual weight. Other standout performances were delivered by Jesse Noel (4-1), Dylan Dixon (4-1), Harold Tittle (4-1), Briar Woodham (4-0), and Nate Elkovitch (4-1). In addition, Brandon Hilton and Robbie Worrell recorded their first varsity wins.

The boys have worked hard over the break and their skills are improving. The season gets short from here - less than a month before the District Tournament. Please encourage all of them to keep up their efforts both on and off the mat. If you would like to see them in action, our next match is this Monday (January 7) at Apopka scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
